Rewards and Assets

We have an especially different philosophy at Chess3 around our approach to digital assets. It's not our goal to simply be a flash in the plan - another run of the mill project or "web3 game of the week" that builds an unsustainable economy that quickly tanks in value because of massive token sell offs. Traditional gamers hate web3 gaming because of (excuse me) dumb shit like this and we empathise with them wholeheartedly.
So what are we doing differently?
Well we're not selling NFTs.
Chess3 will be underpinned by skins and cosmetics, with a traditional and familiar feel. They'll be on-chain in order to allow owners to actually own them and prevent us as the platform overlords from stealing them off you. (Did you know this is one of the reasons Vitalik Buterin started Ethereum? The game devs of a popular MMORPG took his in-game assets off him just because they could and shrugged when he asked for them back). We're also building a marketplace to allow for ease of trade between users for these assets.
We're basing the assumption this model should work off the back of CS:GO's massive success with their cosmetics market. It's one of the bigger reasons why the game continues to grow in popularity as it attracts both players and speculators as well as massive headlines when a hyper rare skin is revealed.
We see a massively underserved opportunity here where users want rare, valuable in-game cosmetics that actually mean something, and not some obviously useless NFT that promises everything and delivers nothing. We believe our assets fit the bill.
We're not selling farmable crypto
Play-to-earn has come and go. Projects like Axie Infinity pioneered the concept in the earliest days of GameFi and we pay homage to those who paved the way for platforms like ours to exist. But the model was (and still is) flawed. You can't build a game that mindlessly rewards people with real money while requiring minimal effort and ease of access. It was a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. And so, our in-game currency at the full release of Chess3 will never be farmable. Users will never be able to earn it.
I'd like to quickly make a sidebar here and say that users will be able to earn a currency in the very early days of Chess3 during our MVP launch tournament but with some massive caveats.
It will not be on-chain
It will not be tradable
It will be strictly in-game only
It will be highly controlled
It will be primarily for community growth
It will be for a very short time period
Beyond this though, Chess3 is committed to building a truely sustainable and long term economy to support it's robust player base and gaming experience.
